Intensive care after the summer

Intensive care after the summer

Fruit acid peelings significantly improve the appearance of aging skin and other cosmetic skin concerns.

How you feel is often related to how your skin looks and feels. Factors that can negatively alter the appearance of your skin include photodamage (from sunburn), acne scarring, dry skin, wrinkled skin, and age and pigment spots. In recent years, physicians around the world have found that the use of alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) can significantly improve the appearance of skin.

The NeoStrata® Alpha Hydroxy Acid product line was developed under the direction of Dr. Eugene Van Scott and Dr. Ruey Yu, the pioneers of alpha hydroxy acid therapy. They have spent more than three decades researching and developing this technology. Their numerous publications, which deal with advances in the field of alpha hydroxy acid therapy, have appeared in many reputable medical journals.

NeoStrata® has a line of skin care products that contain an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) called glycolic acid. In nature, glycolic acid is found in sugar cane. NeoStrata® glycolic acid products are available in a variety of strengths, formulations and compositions.

When used under a doctor’s care, these NeoStrata® products are able to reduce acne, treat acne scars, smooth wrinkles, lighten pigmentation disorders, and give your skin a healthier appearance.
Consistent use of NeoStrata® AHA and PHA skin care products can help renew your skin.

NeoStrata® answers your questions

-What is glycolic acid?

Glycolic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), a group of natural substances often referred to as “fruit acids” because they are found naturally in various fruits and other foods. In its natural state, glycolic acid is found in sugarcane juice.

What does glycolic acid peeling do to the skin?

-Glycolic acid peeling is a specialized skin resurfacing technique. In this procedure, high concentrations of glycolic acid are used to remove the top layer of dead skin, revealing fresh, intact skin tissue beneath. This peeling of the dead upper skin cells stimulates the skin cells below to regenerate. This way, the skin surface appears healthier and firmer.

-Which skin problems can glycolic acid help to improve?

-What treatment results can I expect if I undergo a skin resurfacing treatment?

The following can be achieved with the NeoStrata® glycolic acid skin resurfacing system:

  • Verbesserung von Hautbeschaffenheit und Hautbrillanz
  • Gleichmäßige Hautfarbe
  • Abflachen von Aknenarben
  • Verringerung der Porengröße
  • Reduzierung von sonnenbedingten Fältchen

-How do I prepare for a glycolic acid peel?

When you see your doctor before the treatment, he or she will recommend a NeoStrata® preparation for you to use as preparation, depending on your skin concern. For aging and wrinkled skin, NeStrata® creams (Ultra Daytime Smoothing Cream SPF 20 or NeoStrata® Ultra Smoothing Cream) or NeoStrata® Ultra Smoothing Lotion are used depending on the skin type. To prepare for a glycolic acid peel for acne or acne scars, NeoStrata® Oily Skin Solution or NeoStrata® Gel Plus is used depending on the skin type. All NeoStrata® glycolic acid products are applied once daily in the first week, twice daily starting in the second week, or as directed by your doctor. Only consistent, continuous use of NeoStrata® products will achieve and maintain success!

-How many treatments will I need?

Typically, 6-8 sessions are performed at 2-3 week intervals. During this period, it is necessary to continue using the NeoStrata® product recommended by your doctor at home every day.

-Can there be any undesirable side effects from a peeling treatment?

When a peeling treatment is performed under a physician’s supervision, the risk of adverse effects is low. However, temporary redness of the skin may occur. To avoid this, you should define your expectations with your doctor before starting treatment, inform him of any previous therapies and not change your NeoStrata® product without his consent.

-Does the use of products containing glycolic acid or a glycolic acid peel cause sun hypersensitivity?

We recommend sun protection with NeoStrata® products for daily use due to their anti-aging effect.
Your freshly “peeled” skin is a regenerated, loose, rejuvenated tissue that you must protect particularly carefully with products with a high sun protection factor. It is recommended in any case to use NeoStrata® Bionic Face Cream or NeoStrata® Bionic Lotion for 4-5 days after the peeling session.

Guidelines for patients

Ask your doctor about NeoStrata® products. Prepare your skin at least 2 weeks before the first session with the glycolic acid-based preparation from NeoStrata® recommended by your doctor. One week before each session, you should avoid anything that could irritate your skin (intense sunbathing, tanning beds, masks, etc.). On the day of the session, you should be without make-up or unshaven if possible. Avoid intense sun exposure, tanning beds and saunas (for 24 hours). Five days after the treatment, when the skin has recovered, you can start using the glycolic acid-based products from NeoStrata® recommended by your doctor until the next treatment. Use NeoStrata® Bionic Face Cream or NeoStrata® Bionic Lotion for 4-5 days after the peeling session, as directed by your doctor.
